Our Experience At The Studio

On the 25^th of January 2012 our group had a great experience at Atom studios in Hextable. At the studio we were able to pick one of the two main rooms to film snippets of our teaser trailer. We all found this experience fun and also tedious but found that we were at an advantage, the room we used enabled us to be flexible with what we did.

This was the room we used as our main room to do our work, by changing the ISOS on the camera we were able to get the dark theme we were going for, we also gained a nice light which gave our shots the scary theme we needed by using a Kino Flow 400 Watt with a green gel.

Working in this room was an enjoyable experience, we were able to get the right theme in this room and there were many positive aspects to working in this environment. This room was situated outside so was very cold. Working in this room become hard, as there was no heating or any facilities to keep us warm. Rosemary (our actress) who wore a white robe soon began to complain of numb fingers which made it hard for her to perform at here best standards.

Also when we analysed our day over all we found that it was a completely different experience to what we go through during college hours. In college we work or an hour or two and have breaks but working in the studio meant that we had to work non stop for around 4 hours without breaks, the work pace was fast and at times became overwhelming as it wasn’t something we were use to.

We also found it hard to understand some instructions given by our teacher, as it was a different environment. For example to get dark effect in the classroom when filming we would usually just have to change the lighting but it become different when in the studio and this was not the case. Speaking up about how we felt caused tension at times as we thought what we were doing was the right thing but was not as working inside and outside requires different lighting and different types of angles.

To conclude, our experience at the studio was very enjoyable and we found that it helped us understand how professionals in the media work and gave us a spirit of determination to continue to work hard no matter how cold or hard to situation may become. We were all thankful that we could use the studio as it gave us the experience to work like professionals and understand how hard we have to work if we need something done.

Location Recces

After a while our group was able to finalize our ideas for our trailer. We decided what we wanted to do and were able to draw up a storyboard to a good standard. We came to a decision that we were going to film our trailer in a rented out studio as this is a professional place it will give us an opportunity to produce a quality trailer as we are able to change lighting effectively and also here we would have a wider variety of props and background changes. Using one studio room is also very convenient and it allows us to spend time on our actual trailer rather than worrying about moving around which will also become time consuming. 

As a group we feel that this location will be a good attribute for a trailer as not only is it a professional locations but it is also somewhere that is flexible for us. This location will also be a good experience for us all, as it will give us a chance to have n insight into the media business. Although this location can only be used for a day we have gone to a lot of planning into how everything will be laid out and with this we are going to the studio knowing exactly what we are doing, also this will enable us to be able to spend more time editing after and perfecting our trailer.

The rented studio has very expensive equipment in it that we will be able to use, this is a big difference to using college as our location as we may not have the wide variety of equipment and props we may have in a professional studio. Overall this studio location is a big advantage for our group is it is going to allow us to fulfill our full potential for our trailer and it will also give it a professional feel as we are working with high-class material.
